“My Wife is my best friend and when I am not in the ring we do everything together, I guess you could say I am more of a home body these days,” says Gray.

When asked what is the most amazing thing that has ever happened to you, Gray said, “Getting married, I never thought I would ever get married. I love being married and that is the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me.”

Gray was also asked who he would like to meet one day and he said, “Christ without a doubt, just the amount of love that he showed for people is amazing.”

“Ready When the Time Comes” Program provides vital training to employees

The American Red Cross teamed up with Seacoast National Bank to provide training to 32 employees through the “Ready When the Time Comes,” disaster volunteer program.

After a disaster, the American Red Cross responds in a variety of ways in order to meet all of the emergent needs of individuals, families and communities. The Seacoast employees trained for the Client Casework aspect of disaster response, learning how to provide direct assistance to individuals affected by man-made or natural disasters. Client Case workers also evaluate the needs of disaster victims, provide services and maintain records.

“The Ready When the Time Comes program promotes a very caring way of helping people by understanding and communicating their needs during a disaster,” said Theresa Vazquez, Vice President/Branch Manager of Seacoast National Bank South Vero Square office. “This approach perfectly aligns with ways Seacoast and its employees operate all year long. We are happy to partner with the Red Cross for the program, they have been part of our lives for generations.”

All of the employees who received the American Red Cross training have become a part of the overall Red Cross volunteer team, and will be able to help when the Red Cross responds to a disaster in the area. About 10 of the participants in “Ready When the Time Comes” have also began taking follow up training, allowing them to respond to disasters in other functions outside of Client Casework as well.

The American Red Cross provides “Ready When the Time Comes” training for free to any group or organization that would like to become a partner in disaster response. With the help of the wide network of volunteers, the American Red Cross is able to fulfill its mission of “helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters.”

John Masters, Director of Operations for Intersal, Inc. and son of its late founder Philip Masters, spent years helping his father research and hunt for shipwrecks at Beaufort Inlet, NC, which resulted in the 1996 discovery of Queen Anne`s Revenge (QAR), 1718 Flagship of Blackbeard the Pirate.

Intersal donated QAR salvage rights to the state of North Carolina in 1998, and for the last dozen years has helped the NC Underwater Archeology Branch recover the wreck. His presentation will focus on the current excavation and Intersal`s hunt for QAR, the lives of real pirates in the 18th Century, and the visits of Blackbeard and other pirates to the Treasure Coast.

QAR is located near Beaufort Inlet, NC by Intersal`s former director of operations Mike Daniel, who used historical research provided by Intersal`s late president Phil Masters. Daniel now heads up Maritime Research Institute, the non-profit corporation formed to work on the project in cooperation with State archaeologists and historians of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resource, Division of Archives and History. After recovery and storage is accomplished, artifacts will undergo a lengthy process of cleaning, stabilization, and analysis that will culminate in their public display and interpretation. The North Carolina Maritime Museum is designated as the primary exhibition facility for the QAR collection.

Educated in History (and Music) at the University of Florida, Mr. Masters has been working closely with State of NC officials and archaeologists on the recovery of QAR for almost 15 years. Mr. Masters became Intersal Director of Operations in 1999, and is Project Manager of Intersal`s search for El Salvador, a 1750 Spanish merchant vessel lost near Beaufort Inlet. He presently resides in Gainesville, Florida.

Local Restaurants Join Together To Help By the River and Sunshine Physical Therapy –“Fine Dining For Seven Days”–

Some of the area’s finest restaurants are showing their support for the community in a fundraiser that will benefit two local non-profits, By the River and Sunshine Physical Therapy. Joining together to offer “Fine Dining for Seven Days” to one lucky person and their guest are Stax, Costa D’Este, Green House Café, Lemon Tree, Mulligans and Lobster Shanty. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn on February 9, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Sunshine Physical Therapy, 1705 17th Avenue in Vero Beach.

Each sponsoring restaurant donated a dinner-for-two, for a total package valued at $375. Raffle tickets are $30 each. Members of the non-profit organizations will be selling 100 tickets. Monies raised will go to By the River, the Treasure Coast’s eco-friendly and affordable, independent residential community for low-income seniors. And Sunshine Physical Therapy, an independent outpatient treatment center, founded in l953 by a group of volunteers to serve the physically challenged in the community.

“This is a great way to give back to our community, especially to the elderly and those who are physically challenged,” said Joe Coakley, Director of Charitable Gifts at By the River. “And the winners will have a ball dining out every night for a week. Thank you to all the restaurants who donated to this cause.”
